Giving for living

Giving for living

We’ve all heard that phrase: “There, but for the grace of God, go I.”

The meaning is clear: Whatever misfortune befell our neighbour, could so easily happen to ourselves.

At Miller Restoration, as a member of Disaster Kleenup International, we are no stranger to tragedies.

Was it a fire? A flood? An unexpected major house repair, right before the holidays? Perhaps someone you know lost their partner to illness, or lost their job and couldn’t pay rent. Car accident? Scam victim? Violent family tragedy?

Whatever happened, you probably know, right now, of at least one family in your Niagara community who is in desperate need of aid.

Sometimes, it takes the strength of a community to lift the curtain of misfortune, to give aid where it is needed and provide comfort in small things.

The coming holidays, where the world’s citizens celebrate with faith, light, warmth and special gifts to all, are the perfect time to provide a little aid to someone in need.

Niagara’s 12 municipalities give us ample opportunity to send caring aid, or seek assistance in time of need. If your own family situation allows for a little giving this time of year, there is no shortage of places to donate.

At Miller, we often refer people to the Niagara Community Information Database, which you can also reach by dialling 2-1-1 or 1-800-263-3695 from any phone.

If you’ve got a minute, visit the link above and see the myriad ways you can help your community, whether it’s with donations of goods or cash, or through volunteering your time to help others.

Agencies are broken down into Niagara communities, so search for your municipality and see what’s out there. Some of the agencies you may never have heard of … because sometimes, the places where people go for help fly under our radar, especially if we have never needed help ourselves.

Our Miller teams will be setting an example by choosing a few places to donate our time or goods we have collected.

In the spirit of “giving for living,” we hope our beloved family of clients can do the same.

May the best of the Christmas season be yours, not only today, but throughout the coming year.

– Sincerely, the family of staff at Miller Restoration DKI
